I love Mantar. Theirs is one of the most impressive live performances I have ever seen: primitive, sweaty and more energetic than most coal power stations. Having such a beloved artist release a new album is always a bit scary, especially after three very strong offerings in a row. Still, Mantar remain untouchable and return with their most accessible (read: 'still kicking you in the balls until your teeth pop out') release so far. Odysseus might be their best song yet. The kings are back.

Think not this is another boring, samey thrash salad! Like a deadly flower, memorable riffs bloomed as the album went on. By the end, I am ready to sit under the tree, drinking from a skullcup and pondering the riddle of steel. Excellent blend of thrash with other flavors (from trad metal to Western), evoking the might and danger of the cover's diabolical warriors. Bonus for production: love hearing the bark and rasp of pick on strings without it being scrubbed away by computery production.
